Riviera Nayarit provides a multicultural and multiethnic background intermixed with various cultures and lifestyles all in one area. The four primary tribes include Huicholes, Coras, Mexicaneros and Tepehuanos. Huicholes are a very distinguishable group as they are usually dressed in embroidered colorful clothing paired with plumed hats and elaborate jewelry made out of crystal beads. The Huicholes' art and craftwork make very popular keepsakes and souvenirs which many tourists take back home.

The Coras mainly live in the municipality of El Nayar and are very renowned for their ceramics. Their dialect is related to the Huicholes. The Tepehuanos inhabit the municipality of Huajicori and their most artistic product created are the intricate yarn knapsacks, hats, clay pots, and equipales (Mexican leather furniture). The Mexicaneros live among the ethnic groups and dedicate their time to weaving reed baskets, bins and chiquihuites, and creating wood art pieces, ixtle nets and yarn knapsacks. These indigenous groups make up the array of cultures that are present throughout Mexican culture.
